As a writer, one of the worst problems you can face is sitting down to write and being all out of ideas. Now, I’m sure I’ve mentioned my idea process to you before, but if you missed it, here’s a short recap:
Coffee + Thinking Spot + Leather Bound Journal + 30-45 Minutes of Uninterrupted Thinking Time = My Magical Book of Ideas.
Now, when I sit down to write…
All I have to do is open my magical book, choose an idea, and get to work. Making time to think of and record ideas has been, by far, one of the best additions to my work day I’ve ever made.
But when you’re creating a magical book that contains all kinds of potions and politics, you can’t just use any old book.
No, that would scare away the magic.
Instead, it needs to be a book full of allure. The kind of book you pull out of your satchel and sit on your table, and those around you turn and stare, whispering about what could be hiding inside.
This, my friend, is one of the sweet, sweet luxuries of being a writer.
My magical book…
Is a leather-bound diary made of recycled paper, sent with its own leather wrapped pen and bound by a leather tie. When I pull it out of my bag, smell the leather and sight the pages, I know it’s time to write.

As for the ideas… well, I’ll leave that up to you, my friend.
