Keep It Simple Sally: List Building 101

I remember when I first heard the term ‘email list’. I didn’t even know what it was, let alone how to build one. The idea of building a list was so scary, I chucked it in the bottom of a suitcase and threw it in the attic for a good 6-months.

Thankfully, as I began to understand the concept, I dragged it down, wiped the dust off my face, and got to work.

BUT…

Turns out there’s a whole lotta crap on the net about how to build a list. Most of it is complicated as f*ck. Much of it is completely unnecessary.

Here’s a simple list building strategy:

1. Find a home for your list – I use ConvertKit and I’d highly recommend it (get your 30-day free trial here).

2. Go to Google Docs or Canva and make a freebie your ideal customer NEEDS (not wants, not thinks is cool… solve a problem peeps).

3. Create a landing page where your new friends can jot down their deets so you can send them their freebie. Sounds like the most difficult part of the setup, hey?

Lucky for you, the crew at ConvertKit are running a 30 Day Landing Page Challenge throughout April. They’ll walk you through the step-by-step process of building and launching your own list building funnel. They’re even giving you the chance to win some crazy prizes (like $5k of cold, hard cash).

Join the FREE challenge here and get a free 30-day trial of ConvertKit while you’re there!

4. Don’t be a ninnie… test your funnel from start to finish before you launch it. Fix any errors you find.

5. Promote your freebie regularly (like with this here snippet, posts on various social media, emails, ads, shout it from the rooftops, hold a billboard on a street corner, hire a plane to write it in the sky… you get the gist).

BONUS STEP

6. Email your damn list. Once people give you their address, savour it because it’s your responsibility to entertain the pants off your fans!!!

Aaaannnnnddd that’s it Sally. Start NOW.
